Winter baking

Since our flights were all cancelled, we've been hanging around the past couple of days, mostly just cooking and eating. Me, Joonas, Keisuke, and Katie Camille have pretty much been eating all day, except for some intermittent playing in the snow and attempting to see movies.

And now, to be faithful to the name of this blog, let's talk about the important stuff.

On Friday we cooked a giant feast, involving
Salmon (marinated in garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, sauce-with-a-long-name-starting-with-w, parsley, basil, oregano, and pepper)
Portabello mushrooms (topped with Feta cheese)
Sweet Potatoes (cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, ground ginger)
Pad thai (shrimp, tofu, eggs, peanuts, snap peas, peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
and salad.

We had lots of lively guests and it turned out pretty well- photos are forthcoming.

Today we tried some Asian cooking. For breakfast Keisuke made 粥 (aka "congee") and it was a raging success. We had kimchee, bean curd, black sesame seeds, and some kind of egg-fish sauce to go with it. Tonight I made 蛋挞 (egg tart) and syrnicki (again... we had to use up the Ricotta cheese). I am not sure how these turned out: alas, they are yet-to-be-eaten.

The Man just arrived- time to go! Over and out.

  1. Dear S76EYTBNCCOites and friends:

I'm sorry to hear your flights keep being delayed. At least you're enjoying some great food... As you probably know, the storm almost prevented me from getting to the airport on time for my check-in, and then had me waiting a couple of hours at JFK and almost 5 hours inside a static plane. My parents got to the airport at the scheduled time just to find we hadn't even left JFK yet! Reading about your feasts makes me jealous: by the time I went through security on Saturday night, it was so late the kitchen of the only food place around was closed. So all I had to eat between lunch (thank God we had those yummy leftovers) and 6 am (US Eastern time) were some chips. The food at the airplane was notoriously bad and out of schedule. We had "dinner" at 6 am, and then I had breakfast at 4pm Spanish time.

Bottom line: Danny (and anybody else in search of business opportunities): you should start a "S76EYTBNCCO boxed goodies" program and sell it to people who are about to take a flight. You'll make a fortune!

Best of luck with your traveling, whenever it's happening:
