Some cake and champagne

Four days into Winter Break, I'm still on campus being lazy. Mike and Joonas left on Monday to take their rescheduled flight, leaving me as the only coop member on campus. All I have been doing is eating, cooking and sleeping. (My flies are on holiday vacation so I can not do experiments.) Last night, I cooked a pot of curry and had the Man, Jason, Eric Schlossberg, Anu and Tiffany over for dinner. S73 persists to be the center of goodness.

I take this time to upload some photos I have from two memorable events from the fall semester: The Man's acceptance of his job offer (Nov 20th) and Mike's 21st Birthday (Nov 25th).

Winter baking

Since our flights were all cancelled, we've been hanging around the past couple of days, mostly just cooking and eating. Me, Joonas, Keisuke, and Katie Camille have pretty much been eating all day, except for some intermittent playing in the snow and attempting to see movies.

And now, to be faithful to the name of this blog, let's talk about the important stuff.

On Friday we cooked a giant feast, involving
Salmon (marinated in garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, sauce-with-a-long-name-starting-with-w, parsley, basil, oregano, and pepper)
Portabello mushrooms (topped with Feta cheese)
Sweet Potatoes (cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, ground ginger)
Pad thai (shrimp, tofu, eggs, peanuts, snap peas, peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
and salad.

We had lots of lively guests and it turned out pretty well- photos are forthcoming.

Today we tried some Asian cooking. For breakfast Keisuke made 粥 (aka "congee") and it was a raging success. We had kimchee, bean curd, black sesame seeds, and some kind of egg-fish sauce to go with it. Tonight I made 蛋挞 (egg tart) and syrnicki (again... we had to use up the Ricotta cheese). I am not sure how these turned out: alas, they are yet-to-be-eaten.

The Man just arrived- time to go! Over and out.

Great success!

Today Mike and Keisuke cooked the now-famous spinach and salmon lasagna. In addition, the syrnicki were way better than last time because I used ricotta cheese instead of homemade cheese. Keisuke's idea of adding sherry was awesome.

Also, today we tried out the Google Goggles app on my phone, in which we took a picture of the picture on the wall and recognized it. High five!

Should we try to win a flat screen TV for S76EYTBNCCO??

What do you guys think? I reckon we've had enough practice and we could have 2 or 3 teams to try and win some prizes for the co-op...

Wednesday

Dear all,
Today Marius' iPod arrived and we all rejoiced. Joonas went climbing both before and after dinner, and Marius dropped many things on the floor. Fortunately, his iPod was not one of them.

today

Since we now have a blog, I thought I'd take the opportunity to publicly announce or remind everyone that today is the day my ipod touch 3rd generation arrives, if you did not know that already.

Also, today is the day I will have the exquisite pleasure of cooking for you. I can assure you I will do a great job.

In other lines, today is the day I make my first blog post.

Today is also the day University of Leipzig opened its gates 600 years ago and child emperor Pu Yi ascended the Chinese throne 101 years ago, at age of 2. Also, the first nuclear chain reaction was initiated 67 years ago on this day. Britney Spears' birthday is ... today.

Let's not forget that today is the 336th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar and that there are 29 days remaining in the year.

Now that's what I call spamming.

WELCOME!!!

HI GUYS!!! Welcome to the S76EYTBNCCOYTBNW (the Spelman 76 Exclusive Yet-To-Be-Named Cooking Co-Op's Yet-To-Be-Named Weblog!)

Hi guys,
I made a blog about us because we are so cool and because it allows me to write spam without actually flooding your inboxes. Today I will write about today's dinner.

Chef: Joonas
The Menu: Something Good (sausage, mashed potatoes, Genya-special omelet).
Highlights: Genya taking the fire escape stairs as usual, only to find an empty common room-- and so he was stranded out there for a few minutes.
Language that Danny wants to learn most as of today: Russian
